Assam Cops Reach Pawan Khera’s Home in Passport Row

Assam Police Reach Pawan Khera’s Home in Himanta Sarma

Assam Police Reach Pawan Khera’s Home in Himanta Sarma

A team of Assam Police, along with Delhi Police, reached the residence of Congress leader Pawan Khera in Delhi amid the ongoing passport controversy linked to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. However, Khera was not present at his home when the police arrived.

The action comes after allegations made by Khera, who claimed that Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, possessed multiple foreign passports and had significant overseas assets.

These claims sparked a major political controversy, especially ahead of key elections in Assam.

FIR Filed, Probe Begins

Following the allegations, Sarma’s wife filed an FIR accusing Khera of spreading false information and using fabricated documents. Based on this complaint, police teams carried out searches at Khera’s residence as part of the investigation.

Officials said the house was searched and some documents were recovered during the operation. The police team waited for Khera to return but later left the premises. Meanwhile, reports suggest Khera was not in Delhi at the time.

Political War of Words Intensifies

The development has further escalated tensions between the BJP and Congress. While the ruling side has termed the allegations “false and defamatory,” the Congress has criticized the police action as politically motivated.

High-Voltage Row Ahead of Elections

The controversy has added to the already heated political atmosphere in Assam, where elections are approaching. Both sides continue to exchange sharp statements, making it one of the major political flashpoints at the moment.
