Hyderabad: Congress MP Pawan Khera on Sunday reacted to the FIRs registered against opposition leaders over a controversial Ram Mandir donation-related skit, alleging that the government was ignoring issues related to alleged misuse of donations that hurt the sentiments of devotees.
Speaking in Hyderabad, Khera said that while FIRs were being filed against MPs, concerns related to alleged donation irregularities should also be addressed.
“FIRs are being filed on MPs, but the government forgets that when donations are stolen, it also hurts the sentiments of devotees,” Khera said.
Opposition Skit Sparks Political Controversy
The controversy began after a demonstration in which Purnia MP Pappu Yadav, dressed in saffron robes resembling a temple priest, and other opposition MPs performed a skit involving a collection box and allegations of corruption.
The performance triggered criticism from BJP leaders, who accused the leaders of hurting religious sentiments.
Complaints were filed by BJP leaders, including Bansuri Swaraj and several MLAs, following which police cases were registered. A separate FIR was also filed in Varanasi based on a complaint by a religious leader.
Another complaint was filed against Pappu Yadav at Jehangirpuri Police Station in New Delhi.
Khera Supports Rahul Gandhi’s Stand on Delimitation
During the interaction with reporters, Pawan Khera also backed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on the issue of delimitation, saying that states concerned about the matter should oppose it.
“All those who are concerned about their states should oppose delimitation,” Khera said.
Rahul Gandhi had earlier criticised the proposed delimitation process, alleging that it could reduce Tamil Nadu’s political representation and affect the state’s influence.
Congress Raises Concerns Over Delimitation Bill
Amid discussions around bringing the Delimitation Bill back in Parliament, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the process was aimed at weakening Tamil Nadu’s political power.
He accused the BJP of attempting to “disenfranchise” people of Tamil Nadu and urged political parties to oppose the move.
The BJP has rejected these allegations, while the issue continues to remain a point of political debate between the ruling party and the opposition.
