New Delhi: The first day of the Parliament Monsoon Session witnessed the swearing-in of newly elected Rajya Sabha members, including senior Congress leader Pawan Khera, who took oath as a Member of Parliament on Monday.
Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan administered the oath to the newly elected members in the Upper House.
Pawan Khera takes oath as Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka
Congress leader Pawan Khera was among the newly elected representatives who took oath in the Rajya Sabha on the opening day of the Monsoon Session.
Khera, along with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge (re-elected) and Mansoor Ali Khan, was elected unopposed from Karnataka in June 2026.
BJP leader M. Nagaraj was also among those elected unopposed from the state.
BJP, NPP leaders also sworn in
The oath-taking ceremony included members from different political parties and states.
From the BJP, Dr Mukeshbhai J. Rathwa from Gujarat and Mahesh Kewat from Madhya Pradesh took oath as Rajya Sabha members.
From the Northeast, James Pangsang Kongkal Sangma of the National People’s Party (NPP) took oath as a representative from Meghalaya.
BJP leader Prakash Chik Baraik, representing West Bengal, was also administered the oath during the ceremony.
The swearing-in took place in the presence of senior officials from the Rajya Sabha Secretariat and other dignitaries.
Lok Sabha adjourned amid Opposition protests
Meanwhile, proceedings in the Lok Sabha were disrupted on the first day of the Monsoon Session after Opposition MPs raised slogans demanding discussions on the NEET controversy and the alleged Ram Mandir donation embezzlement case.
The House was adjourned till 12 noon shortly after it began.
The session started with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla making obituary references to former MPs and other prominent personalities.
Soon after, Opposition members started raising slogans, demanding a discussion on alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and the donation-related allegations involving the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust in Ayodhya.
Despite repeated appeals from the Speaker to allow the House to function, protests continued, leading to the adjournment.
