The Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) has welcomed the visit, stating it could help boost India’s exports and open new avenues for Indian businesses in these regions.
Focus on Expanding Export Markets
FIEO President S.C. Ralhan said Modi’s visit “sends a strong signal” of India’s commitment to strengthening economic and strategic relations with nations in West Asia and Africa, especially at a time when global supply chains are evolving.
According to FIEO, enhanced engagement with Jordan seen as a gateway to broader West Asia could support growth in Indian exports of pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, textiles, IT services and agri‑products.
Jordan: Key Gateway to West Asia
In the first leg of the trip, Modi will visit Jordan, which has shown promising bilateral trade potential with India. In the first five months of 2025–26, India’s trade with Jordan exceeded $1.2 billion, with exports amounting to roughly $461 million spotlighting the opportunity to deepen economic cooperation.
Enhanced engagement could help diversify India’s export markets in the Middle East, an increasingly important region for trade beyond traditional energy ties.
Ethiopia: Africa’s Emerging Partner
The second leg of Modi’s visit will take him to Ethiopia, one of Africa’s fastest‑growing economies and a crucial partner for India’s South–South cooperation.
FIEO noted that expanding trade and investment partnerships with Ethiopia could contribute to long‑term economic growth and market diversification, supporting Indian exporters as they explore new frontiers beyond established markets.
Oman: Strengthening Traditional Bonds
The final destination of the trip, Oman, represents a longstanding strategic partner for India, with deep historical trade ties and significant connections in energy and commerce.
The visit to Oman which marks 70 years of diplomatic relations with India is expected to further solidify cooperation in trade, investment and other mutually beneficial sectors.
Strategic Importance and Economic Outlook
Analysts say the three‑nation tour underscores India’s broader economic diplomacy to expand its export footprint across West Asia and Africa, regions vital for trade diversification and long‑term growth.
With India’s global trade landscape evolving, increased engagement through high‑level visits is viewed as a key element in supporting exporters and aligning India with emerging market opportunities in the Global South.
