Thane (Maharashtra): An 81-year-old resident of Mira Road in Maharashtra, Asgar Ali Vohra, has received relief in a long-standing land dispute, eight days after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seeking his intervention in the matter.
BJP MLA Narendra Mehta has agreed to vacate possession of the disputed land and surrender the construction permit associated with it, according to documents cited in the case.
Vohra met PM Modi on September 8 and sought his intervention in the dispute, besides demanding a CBI investigation. Photographs of their meeting also surfaced. Vohra claims that he studied in the same class as Modi at BN School in Vadnagar, Gujarat.
According to Vohra, he has been pursuing the land dispute before various government departments for nearly 15 years. He has alleged that forged documents were prepared concerning the land and that it was subsequently divided between two companies—Swayam Builders and Seven Eleven Constructions. Vohra had alleged that both companies were linked to Narendra Mehta. An FIR in connection with the matter was registered in 2015.
Officials Summon Companies After Vohra’s Meeting With PM
Vohra said action in the matter began after his meeting with PM Modi. The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation had summoned the management of both companies on September 16 to present their side and provide clarification.
Before that, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Shrikar Pardeshi convened a meeting at Mantralaya on Tuesday. Vohra, Narendra Mehta, Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Commissioner Radha Binod Sharma and Town Planner Purushottam Shinde attended the meeting.
Company Seeks Cancellation of Construction Permit
Following the meeting, Seven Eleven Construction Private Limited decided to withdraw from the matter, according to the official documents cited.
The company submitted a letter to the Assistant Director of Town Planning, Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, surrendering the commencement certificate for the plot.
The company stated that it had purchased the plot through a registered deed on June 13, 2019, and obtained permission for construction on April 17, 2026. However, citing the ongoing dispute over ownership of the land, the company decided to surrender the permit.
It also requested the municipal corporation to cancel the construction permission and refund the fees deposited for the project.
Mehta Withdraws Earlier Police Complaint
Narendra Mehta also sent a separate letter to the Police Commissioner stating that he was withdrawing his earlier complaint against Vohra and his associate Ajay Dhoka.
According to the letter, the two sides had reached an agreement.
The 2015 complaint had accused Vohra and Dhoka of encroachment and issuing threats. Letters concerning the withdrawal of the complaint have been submitted to the concerned authorities
