Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday praised the northeastern region for its immense contribution to India’s freedom struggle and national defence, noting the sacrifices of countless people from the area.
He was speaking in Assam at the birth centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
Tribute to Bhupen Hazarika
Calling Hazarika’s legacy timeless, PM Modi recalled how his songs during the 1962 India-China war inspired courage among soldiers and citizens.
He announced that a museum dedicated to the legendary singer’s vision will be completed within a year.

The Prime Minister highlighted efforts like the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and the Asthalakhmi Mahotsav, which showcased the Northeast’s cultural heritage and brought stories of unsung heroes into the national spotlight.

PM Modi said the zeal, creativity, and patriotism of Assam and the Northeast remain undiminished, citing Operation Sindoor as proof of India’s resolve in facing challenges.
He declared that “New India will never spare its enemies,” underscoring the inseparable bond between the region’s cultural pride and national strength.
