New Delhi: Former Member of Parliament (MP) and Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna has challenged his conviction in the Karnataka High Court for repeatedly raping his domestic help and recording videos of the act.
Revanna has also challenged the life imprisonment sentence imposed on him by Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhatt, Bengaluru, on August 2.
Judge Bhat had sentenced him to life imprisonment for raping a domestic help in Holenarsipur and Banashankari, Bengaluru. Prajwal Revanna’s alleged crime is that he raped a domestic help at two places – one at his farmhouse in Gannigarh, Holenarsipur and the other in Banashankari, Bengaluru.
According to the case records, the alleged incidents took place between January 1, 2021 and January 31, 2022.
In his petition, he has claimed contradictions in the victim’s complaint and testimony, alleging that the police forced the victim to file the complaint.
He has questioned the credibility of evidence such as stains found on the bed sheet years later.
Prajwal has sought quashing of the trial court’s verdict and quashing of his conviction on the grounds that the prosecution’s case is riddled with inconsistencies and procedural flaws.
The appeal has been filed through advocate Basavaraj Spannwar. The high court is yet to hear the appeal.
