Press Council of India Reconstituted, 13 New Members Appointed

New Delhi: The Press Council of India (PCI) has been reconstituted. Thirteen new members have been added, increasing the Council’s representation of editors, journalists, parliamentarians, and experts from various fields.

With the addition of the 13 new members, the Council now has a total of 27 members. Previously, the PCI’s panel consisted of 14 members.

The reconstituted Council will include members from the media and other sectors. The PCI is the statutory body responsible for protecting press freedom and maintaining journalistic standards in the country.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting formally reconstituted the Press Council of India (PCI) by nominating 13 new members, completing the council’s full sanctioned strength under the Press Council Act, 1978.

• Total Composition: With these 13 new additions, the 28-member council now fills its vacant media seats, complementing the existing 14 members (which include five Members of Parliament, six newspaper owner/management representatives, and three academic/legal/literary experts from the BCI, UGC, and Sahitya
