Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is set to visit Guwahati, Assam, on February 18 and 19, 2026, to hold extensive discussions with party leaders as part of preparations for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. The visit comes amid intensified political activity in the northeastern state as polls approach.
Party sources said Gandhi who chairs the Assam screening committee responsible for finalizing assembly candidates will lead a series of high-level consultations with leaders at various levels, including state Congress functionaries and members of the candidate selection panel.
Meetings with Screening Committee and Leaders
On her first day in Guwahati, Priyanka Gandhi will chair meetings of the Assam screening committee, which is tasked with evaluating and shortlisting potential Assembly poll candidates. The panel includes Congress leaders such as Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, Imran Masood and Sirivella Prasad.
She is also scheduled to consult the state Congress political affairs committee, as well as district unit presidents, MLAs, working presidents and other key office-bearers in a tightly packed schedule of discussions.
Assessing Poll Preparations
Gandhi’s visit is expected to review organizational readiness ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly polls, assess candidate prospects and strengthen coordination between the state unit and central leadership. Party sources indicate discussions could run deep into the evening on February 18 and continue the following day with broader engagement across party structures.
