New Delhi: Under the proposed Public Trust (Amendment) Bill 2026*, urinating in public places will now attract a fine of ₹500 instead of ₹50.
This change is proposed through an amendment to the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act 1957, to strictly enforce civic discipline.
Strict action also taken on other violations
According to the bill, the fine for running a dhaba, lodge, or shop without a license will be increased from ₹100 to ₹1000.
A fine of ₹1000 will also be proposed for walking a dog without a leash in a public place, instead of ₹50.
Violating cleanliness rules will be costly
A warning will be issued for littering on the streets or failing to remove garbage, but a repeat offense will result in a fine of ₹500.
In addition, strict action will be taken for storing smelly garbage or cow dung without permission.
Some provisions abolished, process simplified
The bill also proposes removing some outdated provisions, such as the heavy fines imposed for starting construction without prior notice.
Also, many cases will now be heard by municipal officials instead of the court, which will speed up the process.
