Amritsar, August 14: About 3,000 buses of Punjab’s government bus transport PRTC, PUNBUS and Punjab Roadways will not ply on the roads from today. The unions of PRTC, PUNBUS and Punjab Roadways employees have declared a strike. Due to this, passengers will have to face a lot of trouble. The government has not yet found any solution to deal with this problem.
The strike was announced after talks between the state government and employee unions on the issue of issuing tenders for giving bus permits to private companies under the kilometre scheme remained inconclusive. The unions made it clear that the strike will continue until their demands are met.
At the same time, the Punjab government has sent an invitation to the union leaders for talks at 11 o’clock.
No action was taken on pending demands
Harkesh Kumar, senior vice president of PRTC, PUNBUS and Punjab Roadways Contract Workers Unions, alleged that Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar has not fulfilled the long pending demands of the employees. The unions have also reiterated their demand to cancel the process of granting permits to private companies.
There will be a meeting with union leaders again today
The government has decided to call another meeting with the union leaders today, so that the differences can be resolved through talks. This meeting will start at 11 am in the office of the Secretary of the Transport Department. In which union leaders Ramesh Singh Gill and Shamsher Singh have been called. However, until some consensus is reached, common passengers will have to face great inconvenience due to the stoppage of government bus services in Punjab.
