Chandigarh: The Punjab government has increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) for 6,507 computer teachers by 40 percentage points, taking it from 181% to 221%. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also announced the regularisation of 1,007 non-teaching employees working under the Samagra Shiksha scheme.
The DA revision will raise the monthly pay of computer teachers, with the increase depending on their basic salary. The government has described the decisions as part of its commitment to employee welfare and job security.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced the decision in a post on X ahead of Diwali, saying the government was committed to employee welfare and their secure future. He also extended festive greetings to the employees.

Previous DA Hike for Computer Teachers
In January 2025, the Punjab government had increased the DA for computer teachers from 148% to 181%, with the revised rate effective from January 1, 2025.

Punjab Government’s DA Hikes for Other Employees
The latest announcement comes amid continuing demands by government employees and pensioners over pending DA instalments and arrears.
In September 2026, the Punjab government increased DA for employees and pensioners by eight percentage points, from 42% to 50%, effective September 1.
On November 4, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced another three-percentage-point increase for government employees and pensioners, taking the rate to 53%. The enhanced DA is to be paid with November salaries and pensions in December.
However, the issue of pending DA and Dearness Relief (DR) arrears remains unresolved. The Punjab government has informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the outstanding DA/DR arrears for the period from July 1, 2021, to September 30, 2026, amount to approximately Rs 22,818 crore. The matter is also being heard by the court.
