Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court’s contempt notice issued to Punjab Chief Secretary KAP Sinha in the DA case has reached the Supreme Court. The Punjab government has challenged it in the Supreme Court and sought the cancellation of the notice.
This case relates to an affidavit filed in the High Court regarding the pending payment of DA and DR. The High Court had prima facie held that the affidavit deliberately provided false information regarding the status of the SLP in the Supreme Court.
The Punjab government argues that the Supreme Court Registry pointed out new deficiencies in the SLP after the hearing. Despite this, the court initiated criminal contempt proceedings against the Chief Secretary. The government also argued that a civil contempt case related to the same matter is already pending in the High Court.
