Punjab Police Crack Valtoha AAP Sarpanch Murder, 7 Held

Jalandhar: Punjab Police have solved the murder of Valtoha AAP sarpanch Jarmal Singh with the arrest of seven accused following a coordinated investigation across Punjab, Delhi, Maharashtra, Bihar and Chhattisgarh. The probe was led by the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and Counter Intelligence units.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the killing was masterminded by handlers operating from abroad, while local modules executed the attack. “This was a well-planned operation, directed by foreign-based elements and carried out through a decentralised network on the ground,” he said.

Shooters Traced to Raipur Using 110-Km CCTV Trail

The breakthrough came when a special team tracked the two shooters, Sukhraj Singh and Karmjit Singh, to a hideout in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The duo has been airlifted to Amritsar for interrogation.

“The operation relied on a massive technical sweep. Our investigators analysed nearly 110 kilometres of CCTV footage to reconstruct the escape route of the shooters,” the DGP said.

Police have also arrested other suspects from Mohali, Tarn Taran, and Jharkhand, indicating a wide, coordinated network involved in planning and logistics.

Gang Links, Foreign Handlers and Coordinated Execution

Jarmal Singh was shot at close range during a wedding function at a resort near Amritsar’s Verka Bypass on January 4. The attack took place in the presence of AAP’s Khemkaran MLA Sarwan Singh Dhun, sending shockwaves across the border district. While the DGP cited “personal enmity” as the motive, investigators said the scale of planning reflected an organised gang operation.

The arrests follow a January 6 encounter near Bhikhiwind, where Tarn Taran police neutralised Harnoor Singh alias Noor. Police sources said Harnoor, a key aide of the Prabh Dasuwal and Afridi gangs, had carried out reconnaissance ahead of the murder.

Officials said the Afridi gang has been increasingly active in the Majha region, often acting as an execution arm for foreign-based handlers seeking to settle local disputes. The case highlights a growing pattern in Punjab where local rivalries are escalated through international operatives, with hired shooters brought in from other states and concealed across jurisdictions. Police said this network was dismantled through coordinated action with central agencies.
