Punjab Police Stop and Search Newspaper Vehicles Overnight Amid Security Alert

Amritsar: On Friday-Saturday night, police stopped and checked newspaper vehicles carrying newspapers from various locations, including Chandigarh, at approximately 12 locations in Punjab. This checking lasted from 10 pm until morning. This led to the discovery that newspapers were not delivered on time to many centres. However, senior officials have so far refrained from commenting on the matter.

Sources revealed that the police had information regarding the supply of weapons and drugs, which led to this action. Vehicles travelling from Chandigarh were stopped for checking in Ropar.

In Ludhiana, too, police suddenly stopped and searched vehicles in several parts of the city on Sunday morning. It is being reported that the police had received specific information in advance, which led to this checking campaign.

Distributors say that Sundays are already a busy day, and this police action has only added to their problems. Vehicles are being inspected at several police stations, but no official statement has been issued by the police.

According to sources, checkpoints were set up in more than a dozen areas of Ludhiana. Police received information about suspicious activity, and a security alert was issued throughout the city.
