Chandigarh: In a major crackdown on cross-border smuggling, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a narcotics and illegal arms smuggling module, arresting five accused and recovering 21.299 kg of heroin, 970 grams of ICE (methamphetamine), one illegal .30 bore pistol, and four live cartridges.

According to Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), preliminary investigations have revealed that the key accused was in direct contact with a foreign-based smuggler, who facilitated the smuggling of heroin and illegal weapons across the International Border for further distribution in India.
Police have registered an FIR at Police Station Airport, Amritsar, and launched a detailed investigation to trace both the forward and backward linkages of the cross-border smuggling network. Authorities are also working to identify all individuals associated with the foreign-based handlers.
Punjab Police said the operation marks a significant breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against cross-border narcotics trafficking and illegal arms smuggling. The force reiterated its commitment to dismantling such networks and ensuring a safe, secure, and drug-free Punjab.
