Chandigarh, August 28: The excitement of the student union elections has increased in Chandigarh’s Punjab University. After the university management released the list of eligible candidates late at night, the campus became very busy. Students have started gathering even before the list of candidates for the post of president is released, due to which the police have also made tight security arrangements.
University management released a list of 21 candidates
The university management has released a list of 21 candidates for the post of president, 16 for the post of vice-president, 11 for the post of secretary and 10 for the post of joint secretary. Siddhartha Bora will contest for the post of president from PUSU.
The Satta leaders accused the ABVP of conspiracy and said that the ABVP front had raised objections against Ashmeet and got his nomination cancelled. They said that till afternoon Ashmeet’s name was in the list of eligible candidates, but later he was declared ineligible.
Ashmeet, who was contesting for the post of vice president from the Sath Party, had his form cancelled yesterday, after which there was a lot of uproar. After the uproar that continued till late night, his name appeared in the provisional list. Ashmeet said that there are a lot of youth with him, that is why other parties are deliberately getting objections raised.
Factionalism has come to the fore in NSUI as well. Presidential candidate Prabhjot Singh is from the Barindra Dhillon group, while Manoj Lubana group’s candidate Sumit Sharma is still facing objections. This even led to a scuffle between the two groups. An objection has also been lodged against the Archit Garg group’s candidate, Sagar Atri. Objections have been lodged against the nominations of several candidates, including Sumit, Chirag, Vishesh, Ashmeett and Abhishek.
Like the previous elections, this time too the NSUI is facing factionalism.
Every senior leader in student politics wants his candidate to become the president, due to which the organization gets divided into many parts.
Students’ Organisation of Punjab University (SOPU) has declared Ardas Kaur, a student of Fashion Department, as its candidate for the post of President. SOPU President Balraj Singh and General Secretary Karanveer Singh Kranti said that the organisation is focusing on promoting students coming from ordinary families. The responsibility of the election process has been given to senior leader Avtar Singh.
As soon as the name of ABVP candidate Gaurav Veer Sohal was cleared, the organization has started campaigning in the hostels. The workers met the students, distributed the manifesto and listened to their problems. ABVP officials claimed that their manifesto is not just a document on paper, but a reflection of the voice of every student. It includes demands like cleanliness of the hostel, quality of the mess, high-speed Wi-Fi, safety of girl students and increasing library time.
