Punjab Desk: Launched in February 2025 under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the “War Against Drugs” campaign has evolved into a decisive mass movement against narcotics in Punjab. Its aim is not limited to arrests alone, but to free society from the grip of drugs and guide it toward a healthier future.
So far, Punjab Police have registered 24,809 FIRs and arrested 36,901 accused. Additionally, 1,604 kilograms of heroin have been seized accounting for nearly 60% of the total heroin recovered in the entire country. According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, Punjab’s 87% conviction rate is the highest in India.
The government has taken strict action by demolishing the illegal assets of drug traffickers and deploying 557 kg opium along the Pakistan border. Over 4,500 villages have declared themselves “Drug-Free Villages,” with Langroya village in Nawanshahr emerging as a leading example.
For rehabilitation, de-addiction centers have been strengthened, and anti-drug curriculum has been introduced for students from Classes 9 to 12. Amanjot Kaur from Ludhiana shares, “With the government’s help, I overcame addiction and started a new life.” Chief Minister Mann stated, “The ‘War Against Drugs’ is not just a legal effort—it is a movement of public awareness. This is a fight to save the soul of Punjab.”
