A 30-year-old man from Kapurthala, Punjab, was allegedly murdered in Germany after he went to mediate a dispute over the leadership of a temple.
The victim’s family has accused four youths from Haryana of attacking him with sharp weapons, leading to his death.
The family of Rajwinder Singh, who had been living in Germany for the past 10 years, has appealed to the Central Government for assistance in either allowing them to travel to Germany for his last rites or bringing his body back to India.
Victim Had Settled in Germany
Jarnail Singh, father of the deceased, said Rajwinder Singh had moved from Ramgarh village in Kapurthala to Germany in search of better opportunities. He had been residing there for nearly a decade and had obtained permanent German citizenship. Rajwinder was living in Germany along with his family.
Temple Leadership Dispute Turned Fatal
According to the father, a dispute had arisen over the position of head of a temple in Germany. The disagreement reportedly involved some youths from Haryana.
When Rajwinder learned about the conflict on Wednesday, he went to the temple to help resolve the matter. However, the situation escalated, and he became involved in an altercation with the group.
Family Alleges Brutal Attack
Jarnail Singh alleged that during the confrontation, the youths attacked Rajwinder with sharp weapons, causing severe head injuries.
He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors treated him for two days. However, the family received a call on Saturday informing them that Rajwinder had succumbed to his injuries.
Family Appeals to Indian Government
The grieving father has urged the Indian government to support the family during this difficult time.
“We need to travel to Germany to perform our son’s last rites. Permission should be granted for this. If that is not possible, arrangements should be made to bring Rajwinder’s body back to his ancestral village, Ramgarh, so that we can conduct his final rites according to our traditions,” Jarnail Singh said.
