14 people dead 6 hospitalised after consuming spurious liquor in Majitha, 5 arrested

Amritsar: 14 people have died after consuming poisonous liquor in the Majitha area of ​​Amritsar district in Punjab. While the condition of 6 others remains critical. All these people are admitted in the government hospital of Amritsar.

The condition of 4 of them is so serious that they are not even in a position to speak or tell anything. The administration fears that the death toll may increase further.

The deceased include people from 3 villages: Bhangali Kalan, Maradi Kalan and Jayantipur. After the incident, the police and administration have come into action. The police have arrested 5 people for selling spurious liquor. They are being questioned as to where and how the poisonous liquor came from. This is the fourth such case in 3 years in Punjab.

A woman from the victim’s family has said that her son started vomiting after drinking alcohol. Then he died while being taken to the hospital. Local people say that the business of fake liquor was going on in this area for a long time, but the administration never took strict action.

Now, after the death of people, the administration has come into action and has started raiding the related places. After receiving the information, DC Sakshi Sawhney also reached out to meet victim families on Tuesday morning and inquired about their condition. She said that in all three villages, those who are showing even mild symptoms are being admitted to the hospital.

After the deaths due to poisonous liquor in Majitha, the Punjab government has taken strict action. The police have arrested Prabhjit Singh, the mastermind of the fake liquor racket. SSP Maninder Singh of the rural area in Amritsar said that a case has been registered under section 105 BNS and 61A Excise Act.

He told that the other arrested accused include Prabhjit’s brother Kulbir Singh alias Jaggu, Sahib Singh alias Sarai, Gurjant Singh and Ninder Kaur. Investigation of the entire network is going on. Investigation revealed that liquor was filled in cans and transported to the villages. All those who died and are seriously ill are daily wage laborers. They used to consume it due to cheap liquor.
