The office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab has informed that a total of 230 Booth Level Agents-1 (BLA-1) have been appointed across the state so far, which is a significant step to ensure transparency and preparedness for the upcoming elections.
Booth-level agents play a vital role in the election process. They act as a direct link between political parties and the booth-level election machinery, assist in the verification of voter lists, raise objections if required, and ensure that the polling process is conducted fairly and efficiently.
Appealing to political parties, Punjab Chief Electoral Officer, Sibin C, said, “We appeal to all political parties to expedite the appointment of Booth Level Agents. Their active participation is essential to ensure the integrity of voter lists and overall fairness of the election process. A well-informed BLA strengthens democracy.”
It is noteworthy that the appointment of Booth Level Agents is done at the District Level, and it is mandatory for every recognized political party to authorize a District Representative to appoint Booth Level Agents through its President or Secretary or any other office bearer. Each BLA-1 is responsible for the appointment of BLA-2 at the Booth Level so that, the monitoring and coordination at the ground level can be further strengthened.
The Office of the CEO Punjab is working in close coordination with all the recognized political parties to ensure timely appointment of BLAs. Parties are being encouraged to complete the remaining appointments at the earliest to facilitate collaboration with Booth Level Officers, support voter awareness and strengthen the efforts of vote cleansing and verification across the state.
