AAP likely to get the position of Mayor in Jalandhar

“After new joinings one each from congress, BJP and independent party now has 43 councillors”

Jalandher: After recent Municipal corporation elections The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to secure the position of mayor for the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation for next five years.

The party recently gained more strength after one councillor from Congress, one from BJP, and Tarsem Lakhotra, who ran independently after being denied a ticket from AAP joined the party.

All the three newly elected members have taken up the broom symbolizing their newfound alignment.

The party now has 43 councillors, making it almost certain that they will elect the mayor.

Late on Sunday night, one councillor from Congress and one independent councillor were inducted into AAP. Minister Mohinder Bhagat announced that Manmeet Kaur, who won her election from ward number 47 on a Congress ticket, Sulekh from ward number 63 who was elected on a BJP ticket, and Tarsem Lakhotra from ward number 46 who ran as an independent, have all joined Aam Aadmi Party.

Three AAP ministers are actively working to convince other city councillors to support their party. Councillor Praveen Wasan, who defeated former Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja’s wife, Anita Raja, has also joined AAP.

In addition, various independent councillors have already aligned themselves with AAP. Aam Aadmi Party ministers Harbhajan Singh ETO, Ravjot Singh, and Mohinder Bhagat are working to win over councillors from other parties. With this, AAP has achieved a majority
