Action against Drug menace in Phillaur: Jalandhar Rural Police arrest three female peddlers with narcotic pills

Phillaur: In a major breakthrough against the drug menace, Phillaur Police Station has arrested three female drug peddlers and recovered 160 narcotic pills in two separate operations. The arrests were made from Ganna Village as part of the intensified drive against drug trafficking.

The accused have been identified as Anita Rani alias, wife of Mangat Ram; Rani, wife of Minda son of Jagar Ram; and Preeti, wife of Harjinder son of Rana, all residents of Ganna Village under Phillaur Police Station jurisdiction.

Senior superintendent of police, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said that that Inspector Sanjeev Kapur, SHO Phillaur, received crucial input about drug movement in the area. Acting swiftly, a special team was constituted under the guidance of SP (Investigation) Jasrup Kaur Bath, IPS and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Phillaur, Sarwan Singh Bal.

The police team intercepted Anita Rani on February 22, leading to the recovery of 70 narcotic pills. Following her interrogation, the team apprehended Rani and Preeti on February 24, recovering 45 pills from each suspect.

During questioning, the accused revealed they had been operating a distribution network sourcing drugs from surrounding areas and supplying to neighboring villages for an extended period.

SSP Khakh added that all three women are habitual offenders with multiple prior cases. “Anita Rani has three previous NDPS Act cases registered between 2022 and 2024. Similarly, both Rani and Preeti have three prior narcotics cases each, demonstrating their persistent involvement in drug trafficking despite previous arrests,” stated the SSP Khakh.

Cases have been registered under sections 22-61-85 of the NDPS Act at Phillaur Police Station. The accused will be produced in court for police remand to facilitate further investigation into their supply chain and connections.

SSP Khakh reiterated the Punjab Police’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace, urging citizens to support police efforts by sharing information about drug trafficking activities. Complete confidentiality of informants is assured.
