Ahead of Republic day Punjab Police put Akali Dal leaders under house arrest

Punjab Police has placed the leaders of Dal Khalsa and Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar under house arrest ahead of Republic Day. Both organizations had planned protests in Gurdaspur, Jalandhar and Mansa on January 25 and 26.

Police surrounded the houses of a large number of leaders late at night. Police force has also been deployed outside the house of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar district president Parminder Singh Walewali in Bathinda. Walewali has been placed under house arrest since morning.

According to Parminder Singh Walewali, the Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab government is suppressing their demands and they are being threatened. Their main demands include the release of Sikhs imprisoned in jail and justice in the cases of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

The government is ignoring these demands, against which protests were to be organized in three districts.
