Chandigarh: The election of the new head of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is to be held on March 1. For this, the party’s membership campaign will start across the country from today (January 20). This campaign will run till February 25.
Along with this, the meeting of the party’s parliamentary board will be held today at 12 noon in Chandigarh headquarters under the leadership of Balwinder Singh Bhundar. All preparations for the meeting have been completed. On the other hand, the result of the party and its allies in the elections of Haryana Sikh Prabandhak Gurdwara Committee has also been very good. The party leaders are also excited by this.
A few days ago, Akal Takht had sentenced Sukhbir Badal to religious punishment. There were mainly 3 charges against him. The first charge was of forgiving Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim in the sacrilege case.
Apart from this, he was accused of not being able to stop the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and not taking action against the accused even while being in the government. Sukhbir Badal had resigned from the post of head even before this punishment. After this, this campaign is going to start now.
SAD’s membership campaign will run from 20 January to 25 March. Its target is to make 25 lakh members. For this, in-charges have been deployed in all the constituencies. The election of the new chief will be held on March 1, because this seat has become vacant after the resignation of Sukhbir Singh Badal.
