Amritsar: Prisoner flees from police custody at court, search to nab on

Amritsar: A prisoner who had come to Amritsar for a hearing escaped from the court premises on Monday evening. The police had brought him from the jail for a hearing. But before the hearing, he freed himself from the police and escaped. The jail administration has informed the Civil Lines police station about this. Raids are on to catch the accused.

According to the information received, Gopal Singh, a resident of Majitha Road, was arrested by the Sadar police station on charges of breaking into a house and assaulting and vandalizing. A case has been registered against him under sections 305 and 331 of the Indian Penal Code. He was brought to the court during the hearing. But during this time, he freed himself from the police custody by making an excuse to drink water and escaped.

The police personnel deployed for security said that the accused escaped from their hands and ran towards the crowd. He took advantage of the crowd and managed to escape by dodging the police. After this incident, the police have intensified the investigation and his search is on. Another case has been registered against him in the Civil Lines police station and raids are being conducted to arrest him.
