Amritsar: Sevadar who fell in cauldron died after 8 days of treatment

Amritsar: A sevadar who fell into a cauldron in the langar hall of the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, died after 8 days of treatment. On the night of 1-2 August, the sevadar fell into a cauldron (Karahya) of boiling potatoes. After the tragic incident, he was admitted to Shri Guru Ramdas Hospital in Valla, Amritsar where he died after 8 days of treatment.

The deceased sevadar had been identified as Balbir Singh, a resident of Dhaliwal in Gurdaspur. He had been coming to the Golden Temple for Seva for the last ten years. According to the information received, the seva of boiling potatoes was going on to make the curry for langar at around 12:30 on the night of 1-2 August. Potatoes were being boiled in a large cauldron of the Golden Temple.

During this time Balbir Singh who was near the cauldron slipped accidentally and fell into it. As per doctors, he suffered more than 70% burn injuries. 

Immediately he was taken out and was admitted to Sri Guru Ramdas Ji Hospital Valla, run under the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. SGPC Jathedar also met the injured sevadar and his family in the hospital. The entire cost of treatment was also borne by the SGPC. According to the doctors, 70% of his body was burnt following which his condition was termed critical by the doctors.
