Amritsar: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau, during its campaign against corruption in the state, on Friday arrested Patwari Ravi Prakash, posted at Kot Khalsa revenue halqa of Amritsar city, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the above accused has been arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by Paramjit Singh, a resident of New Mohini Park in Amritsar city.

He further said that the complainant has approached the Vigilance Bureau and alleged in his complaint that the said Patwari has demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 in exchange for correcting the amount of his loan, which was mistakenly written as Rs 90 lakh in the revenue records instead of the actual loan of Rs 9 lakh.

The spokesperson further said that after the preliminary investigation of this complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team of Amritsar Range laid a trap during which the said accused was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. He said that in this regard, a case has been registered against the said Patwari under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau police station Amritsar Range.

The accused will be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation in this case is being carried out by the Vigilance Bureau unit Amritsar.
