Assistant Sub Inspector who demanded Rs 18,000 as bribe arrested by Vigilance Bureau in Ludhiana

Ludhiana: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Sikandar Raj who was posted at Samrala police station on Wednesday on the charge of demanding a bribe.


An official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau revealed that the case against the said policeman has been registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Ravinder Singh, a resident of Sector 32-A, Chandigarh Road, Ludhiana.


The spokesperson further said that the complainant had filed his statement that on March 13, 2021, that his driver Rajdeep Singh resident of Khadur Sahib, and helper Birju, resident of Sanjay Gandhi Colony, Ludhiana were involved wrongly in a road accident at Nilon Pul, Samrala near Ludhiana.


After this ASI Sikandar Raj had demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in exchange for bailing his driver, releasing the goods loaded in his vehicle and acquitting him of the accident case registered against his driver.

Finally the deal was settled for Rs 18,000. He said that the complainant recorded the conversation regarding the demand of bribe by the said policeman and submitted it to the Vigilance Bureau as evidence.


The spokesperson said that during the investigation, the allegations made in the complaint were found to be true and correct. After this, a case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act against ASI Sikandar Raj posted at Doraha police station.

The said accused was arrested today by the Bureau’s Ludhiana range team from Doraha police station and will be produced in the competent court tomorrow.
