Demonstration of thermal plant employees in Bathinda

Bathinda: Under the banner of Contract Employees Struggle Front in Bathinda district of Punjab, outsourced contract employees of the thermal plant protested by raising slogans at the main gate of the plant and burning the effigy of the Punjab government in protest against the breach of promise by the ‘AAP government’ of Guru Hargobind Thermal.

Addressing the protesters, Jagroop Singh, Jagjit Singh Pangu, Laxman Singh Rampura, and Hardeep Singh Taghad said that, like the previous governments, the Aam Aadmi Party government of Punjab has also attacked the privatization of all government institutions providing affordable services to the people under the guidelines of the Central Government and the World Trade Organization. Contract employees are not being made permanent in government departments.

The employee leaders demanded that outsourced and contracted employees in all government departments be merged into government departments based on priority and experience under the Minimum Wages Act 1948 and as per the prescribed formula. The minimum wage for contractual employees should be fixed as per today’s inflation. Apart from this, the policy of privatization of all government departments should be cancelled.
