Batala Police bust extortion racket: 83 lakh, illegal weapon, luxury cars seized

Batala: In a significant breakthrough, Batala Police busts a major extortion racket run by USA based Gurdev Jassal and apprehends two persons.

Preliminary investigation reveals, on 4th February, associates of Jassal fired on petrol pump of Kalanaur based businessman. After continuous threat calls and demand of ₹1 crore the businessman eventually paid ₹50 lacs on 11 February.

Acting on technical investigation, ASI Surjit Singh and Ankus Maini were arrested for their involvement in the collection and distribution of extortion funds.   Jassal’s gang used foreign numbers for threats and coordinate payments, ensuring that the extortion funds were routed through multiple intermediaries. Recovery: ₹83 lakh, illegal weapons, and luxury vehicles
