Bikram Majithia to appear before SIT today related to 2021 drugs case

Bathinda: Punjab Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia will appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the 2021 drugs case today on Monday. He has been summoned to the Patiala Police Line. Six days ago, the SIT led by Ropar Range DIG HS Bhullar had issued summons to him under Section 160 of the CrPC.

Let us tell you that on March 4, 2025, the Supreme Court heard the petition of the Punjab government. In which the Punjab government had demanded the cancellation of Bikram Majithia’s bail. After which the Supreme Court ordered Bikram Majithia to appear before the SIT. The court had clearly said that Bikram Majithia will have to appear before the SIT at 11 am on March 17. If needed, he will have to appear on March 18 as well.

Punjab government had accused of not cooperating

During the hearing in the Supreme Court, the Punjab government alleged that Majithia was not cooperating in the investigation. At the same time, Bikram Majithia claimed that he was being harassed for political reasons. He appealed to the court to fix dates for the interrogation.

Action based on 2018 Tax STF Report

  • December 2021: During the Charanjit Singh Channi government in Punjab, an FIR was registered against Majithia in a drugs racket case.
  • January 2022: He was arrested and sent to jail.
  • August 2022: The High Court granted him bail.
  • This action was taken on the basis of the STF report of 2018.

Allegations related to drugs case

Majithia’s name came to the fore after the arrest of dismissed Punjab Police DSP Jagdish Bhola. Jagdish Bhola alleged that Bikram Majithia was involved in the drug racket. Majithia’s name also came to the fore after the arrest of Bittu Aulakh and Jagdish Chahal of Amritsar’s pharma company. Jagdish Chahal revealed during interrogation that Majithia had transacted Rs 70 lakh through hawala.
