Attack on Sukhbir Badal at Golden Temple during penance, assailant nabbed

Amritsar: Former Deputy CM and Akali Dal leader who is undertaking punishment at Golden Temple was attacked by a man. An attempt was made to shoot former Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal outside the Golden Temple on Wednesday. However, he escaped narrowly as the attacker was nabbed by the security personnel. Badal had arrived in the morning to follow the punishment at the Akal Takht. He was sitting outside the clock tower holding a spear in his hand. More details are awaited in this matter.

The bullet hit the wall, in which Badal narrowly escaped. The video of the incident has also surfaced. The man approached Sukhbir Badal who was sitting on a wheelchair. He then took out his pistol and opened fire. Then the security personnel standing there caught the person and snatched the pistol from his hands.

The security personnel surrounded Sukhbir Badal. Security has been increased outside the Golden Temple. The police have taken the person who fired the shot into custody.

The assailant who fired the shot has been also been identified. The shooter is identified as Narayan Singh Chaura, a resident of Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur. He is a member of Dal Khalsa. It is said that the shooter posed himself as a devotee and later tried to shot Sukhbir Badal.

On December 2, a meeting of 5 high Sikh priests was held at Sri Akal Takht Sahib in the Ram Rahim case, in which he and other cabinet members during the Shiromani Akali Dal government were sentenced for charges of religious misconduct. Sukhbir Badal and others are serving religious punishments at the golden temple.
