Chandigarh Administration Steps Up Efforts to Promote Public Hearings and Citizen Engagement

Chandigarh: In a significant development, to enhance accessibility and ensure effective public service delivery, the Chandigarh Administration has reserved Wednesdays exclusively for public engagement since March 2024.

Recently, in a concerted effort to strengthen transparency, responsiveness, and citizen-centric governance, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria, Administrator, UT Chandigarh, visited various offices across the city to review the existing mechanisms for public interaction and grievance redressal.

Taking this commitment forward, the Administrator UT Chandigarh has directed that the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation; the Deputy Commissioner; and the Senior Superintendent of Police, Chandigarh, will conduct regular public hearings three times a week — every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday — from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. These dedicated sessions will provide residents with an accessible platform to voice their concerns, submit representations, and seek timely resolution of issues.

Additionally, to facilitate coordinated redressal of matters requiring joint action, the Deputy Commissioner and the Senior Superintendent of Police will hold a joint public hearing every Friday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Sector 17, Chandigarh.

It was further directed that during the designated public hearing hours, no official meetings shall be scheduled by these offices. In case of administrative exigencies, such meetings may be arranged before or after the public hearing timings to ensure uninterrupted interaction with citizens.

The Chandigarh Administration remains committed to strengthening participatory governance and ensuring that the concerns of residents are addressed promptly, sensitively, and effectively.
