Transporters and truck drivers have gone on strike against the new hit-and-run law implemented in the country following which there was a crisis at petrol pumps in different states of the country. Petrol pumps went dry at many places in Punjab yesterday. Long queues of people were there as the strike caused panic among the people.

The situation became such that there was a long traffic jam on the roads. Due to which common life was greatly affected. But with the help of the administration, the situation was controlled and assurance was given to provide petrol at the petrol pump as before. In some districts strike was called off because of the administration efforts and supply was assured.

Let us tell you that after the amendment in the Indian Justice Code 2023, there is a provision of a fine of up to Rs 7 lakh and imprisonment of up to 10 years on the guilty driver in hit and run cases. Due to which transporters and truck drivers went on strike demanding change in this law.

Government should consider hit and run law

The next meeting of the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) will be held on January 10. In this, a decision will be taken that if the government does not accept their demands, then how to present their side to the government.

AIMTC President Amrit Madan said that there is a need to take strict action in hit and run cases. The government’s intentions behind this new law are good, but there are many flaws in the proposed law. There is a need to think again on these. After the provision of 10 years of punishment, truck drivers are now forced to leave their jobs.
