Chandigarh: After the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Chandigarh administration has decided to remove the wall near the Rock Garden. This step has been taken to eliminate the traffic jam near the High Court and to deal with the jam.
In fact, during the hearing of CWP-PIL and other related cases, the High Court had directed the administration to solve the traffic problem caused by a raised corner of the Rock Garden. The court had said that this wall is obstructing traffic, due to which there is a jam situation near the High Court.
Road widening will provide relief from traffic jam
Following the High Court’s direction, the Chandigarh administration has planned road widening here. Under this, a compound wall near the Rock Garden will be demolished. The administration says that this wall is not the original part of the Rock Garden, but it was built to fix the boundary of the forest area.
The legacy of the Rock Garden will remain
The Chandigarh administration has clarified that removing this wall will not affect the heritage and beauty of the Rock Garden. The new wall will be built in such a way that it matches the existing design. While this decision will ease traffic near the High Court on one hand, on the other hand, the historical and cultural heritage created by Nek Chand will also be preserved.
