Colonel Manpreet Singh posthumously awarded Kirti Chakra for Supreme Sacrifice in Anantnag Terror Operation

Amritsar, May 23: Indian Army’s brave officer Colonel Manpreet Singh has inscribed his name in the category of immortal heroes by sacrificing his life in the defence of the country. He has been awarded the “Kirti Chakra” posthumously by the Government of India for displaying unparalleled bravery, leadership and courage while fighting against terrorism.

Colonel Manpreet Singh was posted in the Sikh Light Infantry, 19 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army and was a resident of the Amritsar district of Punjab. Currently, his family is settled in New Chandigarh, and every year, a Shaheedi Samagam is organised on his death anniversary.

The day of his sacrifice was 13 September 2023. This day has been recorded in Indian military history as an example of courage and dedication. Colonel Manpreet Singh was leading a special “Search and Destroy Operation” in the dense hills of Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.

This operation was carried out to neutralise terrorist activities and restore peace in the area. He was accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Police Deputy Superintendent of Police Himayun Muzammil Bhat, who sacrificed his life for the country in this operation.

1. Martyrdom in display of valour (13 September 2023)

Colonel Manpreet Singh led an extremely risky “Search and Destroy Operation” against terrorists in the inaccessible hills of Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. As soon as the presence of terrorists was confirmed, he immediately planned the cordon and took the front line himself. Passing through narrow trails, amid a hail of bullets, he fired directly at the terrorists and killed an enemy on the spot. In this encounter, even when he was shot in the head, he did not lose courage and continued to fight the enemies till his last breath. This sacrifice became a symbol of the glorious tradition of the Indian Army.

Know who is Colonel Manpreet Singh

According to the information, Colonel Manpreet Singh was originally a resident of Bharonjian village in Punjab, which is near Chandigarh. His family lives in Chandigarh. His martyrdom has come as a big shock to his wife Jagmeet Grewal and two children. He has an 8-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter.

Martyr Manpreet Singh was recruited as a lieutenant in 2003. He became a colonel in 2020. His father started working as a security guard in Punjab University after his retirement. He died during the job. Therefore, martyr Manpreet Singh’s younger brother Sandeep Singh was recruited in the non-teaching staff. He currently works in Punjab University.
