Congress new in-charge Bhupesh Baghel to visit Punjab today

Chandigarh: Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is visiting Punjab for the first time after being appointed in-charge of Punjab. This tour is being seen as a preparation for the 2027 assembly elections.

After the better performance of Congress in the last by-elections and municipal elections, Congress is hoping to make a comeback in 2027. Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said that Bhupesh Baghel will be welcomed at several places in Amritsar Sahib, where there will be a huge enthusiastic gathering of Congress workers and leaders from across the state.

Baghel is reaching Chandigarh on Saturday, Where he will hold a meeting with senior leaders at the Punjab Pradesh Congress office. After the two-day tour, Baghel will leave for Delhi at 7.30 pm on Saturday.

Big responsibilities in front of Baghel

  • Ending factionalism – Bringing leaders like Navjot Singh Sidhu, Pratap Singh Bajwa, Sukhjinder Randhawa and Charanjit Singh Channi on one platform within the party will be the biggest challenge for Baghel.
  • Strengthening the Opposition in the Assembly – Congress will have to overcome internal conflicts to put up a strong opposition against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
  • Preparation for Assembly Elections 2027 – Before the 2027 assembly elections, Congress will have to make a strong strategy so that the party’s position can improve in Punjab.
  • Persuading the angry leaders – Many senior leaders of the party are angry with the high command. Baghel will have to make a strategy to convince such leaders and give them an active role in the organization.

Will Baghel’s strategy be successful?

Bhupesh Baghel is considered a grassroots leader and is an expert in making election strategies. But to strengthen the position of Congress in Punjab, he will have to coordinate with the local leaders and remove their resentment. If he succeeds in this, then Congress can regain strength in Punjab, but if factionalism continues, the party may have to suffer a big loss.
