Contractual employees of PGI Chandigarh go on strike, demand salary and Diwali Bonus

Chandigarh: Contractual employees working in Chandigarh PGI have gone on strike due to non-payment of salary and Diwali bonus. This strike has affected PGI’s health services, which is causing patients and their families a lot of trouble.

Employee Rinku said that he has not received his salary for the last several months. Apart from this, they are not been given bonus even on the occasion of festivals like Diwali, which has increased the financial pressure on his family. The employees on strike have alleged that the management is not taking their problems seriously and despite repeated assurances, the issue of salary and bonus is being ignored.

Safai karamcharis, ward boys, and other essential service providers working on contracts in various departments of PGI are involved in the strike. Due to this strike, the cleanliness of the hospital, patient care, and other important services are being affected. Patients admitted in the hospital and their families are facing a lot of inconvenience.

The risk of infection has also increased due to a lack of cleanliness in many wards. Employees said that they have been facing problems like delay in salary and reduction in the bonus for a long time. They have appealed to the PGI management to immediately look into their demands and solve the problem.

Employees say that issues like salary and bonus are related to the maintenance of their families and cannot be compromised.
