Court sentences accused death penalty in Jalandhar 12-year-old rape-murder Case

Jalandhar: In Jalandhar, Punjab, the fast track court has sentenced the accused to death in the case of raping a 12-year-old girl and then killing her with a hammer about four years ago. Let us tell you that 30-year-old drug addict Gurpreet Gopi first raped the girl, then hid the child’s body in sacks filled with sand. In this case, the court has sentenced the accused to death.

Additional sessions judge Archana Kamboj convicted the accused under IPC sections of 376 (rape), 302 (murder), 364 (kidnapping) and 201 (destruction of evidence) and pronounced the death sentence.

Rape was revealed after post-mortem

The police rescued the accused from the clutches of the public and took him to the police station. The accused was being questioned there till midnight. The police had seized the blood-stained hammer. The girl’s body was found in the house of neighbor Gurpreet. When the police conducted the post-mortem, it was found that the child had been raped.

According to the information, in February 2021, the girl went missing from a village in Goraya at 4:15 pm. After which the father started searching for the girl. At 2:45 pm, she was seen playing outside the house but later she went missing after which police parties reached out to investigate the matter.

When the police checked the CCTV cameras installed in the village, it became clear that the girl had not gone out of the village. The police started searching the houses in neighborhood to find the missing girl.  Gurpreet Gopi, the accused also helped the police in searching people’s houses. When the police went to Gurpreet’s house at around 7 pm, a hammer stained with blood was found inside. After which the accused was arrested.
