CP Jalandhar arrested five migrant drug smugglers including three women, 5 kg opium recovered

 Jalandhar: The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police under the leadership of Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma has achieved a major success and arrested five migrant drug smugglers including three women with 5 kg of opium.

Giving information in this regard, the Police Commissioner said that the police had received a tip-off that a gang of smugglers was operating in the city. He said that on the basis of the information, the police party laid a trap on Baba Budha flyover on Wednesday.

Mr. Swapan Sharma said that the police party saw five persons, including three women, coming from the Kapurthala road side.

The police commissioner said that the male members of the gang acted suspiciously on seeing the police party. He said that when the police party checked the said persons thoroughly, 2 kg of opium (1 kg from each) was recovered from both men. Mr. Swapan Sharma said that during the search of women’s bags, three kg of opium (1 kg each) was recovered and a total of 5 kg of opium was recovered from all the five smugglers.

The police commissioner said that the police have arrested all the five accused who are residents of Jharkhand state and they have been identified as Bablu Kumar Vishkarma, Pardeep Vishkarma, Phulvati Devi Village, Pratima Devi and Aarti Devi. All the smugglers are resident of Jharkhand.

 Mr. Swapan Sharma said that a case dated 31-01-2024 under the 18-61-85 NDPS Act has been registered against the traffickers at Basti Bawa Khel Jalandhar police station. He said that Bablu Kumar Vishkarma is a fugitive because an FIR has already been registered against him under the NDPS Act at Jalandhar, while there is no criminal record against the other four smugglers.
