Jalandhar, June 21: A major accident occurred at Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station on Saturday morning when a large crane collapsed in the parking area during renovation work. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, though several vehicles suffered severe damage.
Crane falls in the parking Lot, Vehicles crushed
The crane, which was being used for construction at the station, fell directly onto the parking area. As a result, dozens of two-wheelers and four-wheelers were either crushed or severely damaged. Eyewitnesses reported a loud crash followed by chaos in the area.
RPF and Railway Teams begin investigation
Railway Protection Force (RPF) and railway officials quickly reached the site after the incident and cordoned off the area. While the exact cause of the crane collapse is not yet known, officials confirmed that an inquiry is underway. Further action will be taken once the investigation is complete.
Parking contractor blames overload
According to the parking contractor, the crane was lifting a heavy load that was supposed to be lifted in five separate parts. However, the crane attempted to lift it all at once, leading to mechanical failure and collapse. “One part of the crane gave way, causing the crane and the material to fall straight down,” he explained.
Damage assessment and compensation promised
The contractor responsible for the renovation is based in Ludhiana and has been informed. His team has assured that compensation will be provided for the damaged vehicles once the contractor arrives on site. Meanwhile, parking lot owners confirmed that most two-wheelers sustained serious damage.
Senior railway officials have been briefed about the incident. A higher-level team is expected to arrive soon for further investigation. The railway authorities have assured appropriate action against any lapses or negligence.
