Customs nabs passenger with Gold worth 67 Lakh at Amritsar Airport

Amritsar: Acting on specific intelligence, officers of Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Amritsar intercepted a Passenger (Pax) at Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International (SGRDJI) Airport, Amritsar on 28.12.2023 who arrived vide flight IX192 from Dubai. 

During his personal search gold in the paste form having 1698.2 grams (Gross Weight) was recovered from his possession that was wrapped in a yellow packet and concealed in the waist strip of his trousers. The 1068 grams of gold (Net Wt.) of 24 carat with value of Rs. 67,60,440/- was recovered and seized under the Customs Act,1962 provisions.

The Passenger (PAX) admitted the mode and factum of recovery of said Gold and submitted in his voluntary statement that he smuggled the said Gold for consideration of Rs. 10,000/- handed over to him in Dubai which was to be handed over in India.

The PAX was arrested under the Customs Act,1962 provisions. Further investigation in this matter is under process.
