Customs recover foreign currency worth over 26 Lakhs at Amritsar Airport

Amritsar: During the security check here at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport, the customs department found foreign currency of different denominations were found.

During the security check of hand baggage of the passenger by CISF on X-ray, suspicious objects resembling currency were noticed. Later passenger was handed over to customs staff for further proceeding. During the examination, foreign currency of different denominations were found.

The Passenger intended to depart to Delhi by Air India Flight from SGRDJI Airport, Amritsar for onward journey to London by Flight No. AI-161 from Indira Gandhi international Airport, Delhi.

A total of 25,900 pound sterling amounting to INR 26,91,010/- was recovered from the said passenger. The amount was seized under section 110 of the customs act,1962.
