Govt sets date for talks with farmers on Feb 14

Patiala: A meeting will be held in Chandigarh on February 14 regarding the ongoing farmer agitation on Shambhu and Khanauri border of Punjab and Haryana. On Saturday, Joint Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Priyaranjan reached Khanauri border. Here he met farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who was on hunger strike, and invited him for a meeting.

After this, Dallewal agreed to take medical facility. He was given glucose. Today is the 55th day of Dallewal’s hunger strike.

It was written in the invitation that a meeting of the ministers of the Government of India and the Punjab Government will be held on February 14 at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration in Sector-26, Chandigarh, regarding the demands of Bharatiya Kisan Union (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha. We hope that Dallewal will end his hunger strike soon and attend the meeting.

While talking to the media, Priyaranjan said that the Center is concerned about the health of Dallewal, who is on hunger strike. We have come here so that we can find a way out. Central officials had appealed to Dallewal to end the hunger strike, but he refused. Dallewal made it clear that the 121 farmers who are on a fast unto death for him should be talked to.

The 121 farmers said that first Dallewal should eat something, then we will eat. We will end the fast with him. The farmers have agreed to give medical treatment to Dallewal. The doctors have said that Dallewal cannot survive on medical aid till February 14. On which farmer leader Kaka Singh Kokda said that now Dallewal will be pressured to take medical treatment and end the fast unto death.

Dallewal lost 20 kg weight

Farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohad says that Dallewal’s weight has reduced by 20 kg. When he was on a fast unto death, his weight was 86 kg 950 grams. Now it has come down to 66 kg 400 grams.

According to Dallewal’s latest medical report, the result of kidney and liver related tests is 1.75, which under normal circumstances should be less than 1. The government deliberately tells the Supreme Court the results of those tests which take a longer time to decline.
