Demand for ban on China String raised in Parliament; MP Aujla highlights risk to lives, environment

Amritsar: Punjab’s Amritsar MP Gurjit Singh Aujla today raised the demand in Parliament for a ban on Chinese kite-flying string. He said that despite the ban, this dangerous string is still being sold openly, causing serious injuries to two-wheelers, many people are losing their lives and the environment is also being harmed.

MP Aujla urged the government to take strict action against those who violate such rules and promote environmentally friendly alternatives so that the safety of the public can be ensured. He has also demanded a law against this.

Production started in India

He said that earlier this string was imported from China, but now it is being manufacturing in India. During Lohri and Basant Panchami, when kite flying is popular in Punjab, people are losing their lives. Strict monitoring, public awareness and accountability are very important so that these fatal accidents can be prevented.

Nylon is being used instead of traditional thread

It is worth noting that Chinese thread, also known as nylon or metallic manjha, proves to be extremely dangerous for humans, animals and birds during kite flying. Due to its easy availability, people have started using this China thread instead of traditional thread. It is banned in many states, but despite this, its availability in the markets remains a matter of concern.

Three have died

According to a statistic, since January 1, three people have died in incidents related to Chinese string used for kite flying in various parts of the state. At the same time, more than a dozen people have been injured. Despite this, no strict action could be taken. The police have arrested 197 criminals, but the sale of banned nylon string continues unabated.
