Dharamvir Gandhi joins Congress, says ‘Lok Sabha elections will decide direction of the country ‘

Chandigarh: Former Member of Parliament from Patiala of the Aam Aadmi Party Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi has joined the Congress. He even merged his Nawan Punjab Party (NPP) into the congress ahead of the elections.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Dr. Gandhi defeated Preneet Kaur from Patiala. There are speculations that the Congress can field him from Patiala as Preneet Kaur has left the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Bhartiya Janta Party in its 8th list has declared Preneet Kaur as its candidate from Patiala. Apart from Kaur, BJP also named 5 more candidates on 13 seats of Punjab.

AICC in charge of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Devendra Yadav welcomed Dr Gandhi in congress. He said, “We welcome renowned educationist, cardiologist, and former Aam Aadmi Party MP Dharamvir Gandhi to join Congress today. He is a former MP from Patiala. His arrival in congress will strengthen the party in Punjab.”

PPCC Chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said “Today Dharamveer Gandhi has not only decided to join the Congress Party but has also merged the entire party with his Congress, we welcome it.”

After joining Congress, Dharamvir Gandhi said, “Today I am happy to join the Congress Party. Many more people have come with me. It is a matter of pride for me to join this great party. Pandit Nehru had given a scientific temperament to the country after independence and it is necessary to take it forward.”

Dr Gandhi said that the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are very important as it will decide the direction of the country.

On joining congress ahead of elections, he said “At such times it is very important to stand with the right. That’s why I have joined Congress.”
