Amritsar: Amritsar police have succeeded in arresting two drug smugglers in an encounter at 3:30 am on Thursday. The smugglers opened fire as soon as they saw the police. One smuggler was injured in retaliation. The other smuggler also suffered minor injuries. At present, both have been admitted to a hospital in Amritsar.
According to the information received, this incident took place in a park located on Tarn Taran Road in Amritsar at around 3:30 am. The police was tracking these smugglers for the last three days. Police received a tip-off that at night the said smugglers accused were seen around the park located on Tarn Taran Road. Police reached the spot to arrest the accused smugglers.
ACP Surinderbir Singh informed that the smugglers started firing on seeing the police vehicles at night. The bullets fired by smugglers hit the police vehicles. After which the police took charge and retaliated. During this, one smuggler was shot in the thigh while the other was caught while running.
Two pistols recovered
Both the smugglers caught are residents of Tarn Taran. One is from Jhabal and the other is from Tarn Taran city. Apart from being smugglers, both are sharpshooters as well. They carry out crimes after taking money. Police have also recovered two pistols from both the smugglers. At present, both the injured have been admitted to a private hospital.
