Ensure adequate supply of good quality urea and DAP to Punjab farmers: MP Dr Amar Singh

New Delhi: Dr Amar Singh MP Shri Fatehgarh Sahib met Union Fertilizer Minister JP Nadda in New Delhi and requested him to ensure that farmers in Punjab get an adequate supply of good quality urea and DAP. He informed the Minister that there is lot of tension among farmers as 60% of the DAP samples sent to Punjab have failed quality tests. He stressed the need for a very serious investigation of the matter.

He said on the other hand currently Punjab has very low stocks of DAP and the amount sent by the Government of India to Punjab till now was far lower then the amount sent last year.

Dr Singh informed the Minister that Punjab contributes the largest share to the central pool with respect to food grain procurement done by Government of India. Given this he requested that Government of India should also ensure that farmers in Punjab faced no shortage of DAP.

He said, procuring DAP from private players will put an unnecessary burden on small and marginal farmers who rely solely on Government and Cooperative agencies for their supply of DAP and other fertilizers. The Minister promised that necessary action would be taken against those supplying  poor quality DAP.
