Phones seized from Amritsar jail: 12 Keypads and 6 Android devices confiscated

Amritsar: Even after the strictness of the Punjab Haryana High Court, the smuggling of mobiles in jails is not being stopped. 18 mobiles and objectionable items have been seized from Amritsar Central Jail. After the complaint of the jail administration police have registered a case against the person.

On the complaint of Assistant Superintendent Prabhdiyal Singh, the police of the Islamabad police station have registered a case under various sections. In the complaint given by Prabhdiyal Singh, it is written that 18 mobile phones have been found unclaimed from Central Jail Fatehpur. Out of which 12 are basic keypad phones, while 6 touch mobiles are high-tech mobiles. Not only this, 6 mobile phones and 48 bundles of bidis have also been recovered.

Despite such a large number of mobiles reaching the central jail, the jail administration was not able to identify even a single accused.

The Punjab Haryana High Court has been very strict on the use of mobiles in jails for the past few months. After the Lawrence Bishnoi interview came out, the High Court has repeatedly summoned the Punjab government on its efforts to stop the use of mobile phones in jails.

About 7 months ago, the Punjab government had also talked about efforts to stop the use of phones in jails, but till now mobile phones are reaching the jails indiscriminately.

The project of installing jammers in Punjab jails has been going on for a long time. In a case going on in the High Court in 2013 during the Akali government, the government had promised the court that soon jammers would be installed in all jails.

On the other hand, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also talked about jammers in jails after assuming the post of Jail Minister, but these promises were never fulfilled. Now it has been more than two years since the Aam Aadmi Party government came to power, but mobile phones are still being used in jails.
